1231416 2011-09-19 21:43:00 Just tried a 16-bit DOS game on 32-bit Windows 8, the only difference between it and Windows 7 is that you need to enable 16-bit support - it still doesn't do full-screen DOS programs. pcuser42 (130)
1231417 2011-09-19 23:36:00 Windows 7 still supports 16-bit applications, but just not on the 64-bit version of Win7... Only the 32-bit. Chilling_Silence (9)
1231418 2011-09-20 04:14:00 Just tried out one of the features that was taken away in W7 -- Now with W8 you can do a repair install as per XP:banana

When booting from the W8 DVD, selecting repair my computer, one of the options is to do a repair install, leaving all your program and data alone.

Another option is in case you want to wipe all your settings programs etc for a new owner -- similar to doing a sysprep currently. (not tried that one yet)

From within windows it also allows you to make a repair CD to run the above features, in the case of not having the Actual DVD, I would suspect for the likes of the Big OEM's that preload windows.

That will make life easier for some people then, sounds like a step forward. Not being able to do a system restore in Win7 has been one of it's major drawbacks I reckon

1231421 2011-09-22 05:51:00 I'm now into my 3rd install of Win8 . The first two came to a sticky end when i set up a domain login account. When i tried to login to the domain all i got was a black screen with the mouse icon and no other. Logged off OK but when I login to the local PC account now I get the same thing..

Not sure if it's a video driver issue or what as the video card say Microsoft generic.

Quite like the ribbon in the file manager but if you go and disable the "touchpad" interface on bootup you loose it and it goes back to the Win Vista / 7 version..

1231422 2011-09-22 06:41:00 I've just removed Win8 from my main PC - still got it on another machine. I was finding start/restart/shutdown was too unpredictable/unstable. It never affected the operation of the other OS's (Win7 and Vista), but getting back to them from Win8 was becoming a bit of an adventure! Restart was taking a very long time, and was not actually rebooting - it was actually restarting Win8 without going through a reboot and logon. The only way I could get to another OS was to close down and then power up again.

I found an interesting bug. I was trying to access a networked drive and Win8 was asking for a username/password. I entered the data, but when I checked "save my credentials", the dialog box disappeared. When I clicked on the underlying explorer widow, it came back. This happened several times.
