1231395 2011-09-17 21:46:00 Don't know what MS is trying to do ,I was a early adopter of Win 7 (RC) but from what I have seen and read about Win 8 there is no way I feel any reason to even look at this in it's present form

Has the look of WMC which I don't like and also the look of Win Phone operating sys which most believe is clunky compared with android

MS has had a job to migrate people away from XP to Win 7 but I think they will be pushing s**t uphill with Win 8 unless their is some radical changes to this developer Release

1231397 2011-09-18 20:57:00 OK, here's an interesting thing:

The boot options screen you see depends on where you were before you started and if it was a restart or power-on.

From the developer preview, if you power off, you get the graphical options when you power on. If you do a restart, sometimes you get the classic options, and sometimes it just goes straight to the developer preview.

From Windows 7, you always get the classic options however you restart.

If you are at the graphical boot options and choose Windows 7, the system reboots and then goes straight to Win7 without seeing the options again.

Can anyone else reproduce this?

1231398 2011-09-18 21:38:00 I can take a look at that when I get home, my test tablet PC is also dual booting with Windows 7. :)

Should try a mutiboot with Windows 98, Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8...

1231399 2011-09-18 22:00:00 Don't get too up in arms just yet - as has been said it's a developer preview. And it's pretty stable considering that too. wratterus (105)
1231400 2011-09-18 22:04:00 The machine I was posting about in #53 is triple-booting Vista, Win7 and Win8, with Win7 as the default. I also have the preview on another machine, dual booting with XP (default). On that machine, the graphical options present differently. If I am at the graphical view, it assumes developer preview, and I have to go to another screen to select XP. On the triple-booting machine, I get all three options presented at the same time.

One difference on the WinXP machine is that I had to use EasyBCD to get back to the dual-boot. On the Win7 machine it all happened automagically.

1231401 2011-09-18 22:12:00 I've changed my mind about the boot time. It is almost the same on my machine as with Win7, but Win7 is doing a whole bunch of startup things, whereas Win8 is doing none. Too early to pass judgement though - I'm sure there is a swag of tuning to be done. Tony (4941)
1231402 2011-09-18 22:13:00 Don't get too up in arms just yet - as has been said it's a developer preview. And it's pretty stable considering that too.I absolutely agree. And as I said in an earlier post I also think a lot of the interface awkwardness is scaffolding to allow developers to do stuff, and (I hope!) does not reflect the final look and feel. Tony (4941)

1231404 2011-09-19 05:20:00 I love this OS its very fast to boot up it only takes 10 seconds from a cold boot and im running it on a Toshiba laptop 2ghz intel processor and 4gig of ram very stable fast and smooth.
The net is instant when surfing pages, Also love the smart screen feature which means you don't need an anti virus program as it monitors sites for viruses while surfing.
Took me a couple of hours to get used to the metro style but love it now and find it very fast to use have had no probs since installation very stable and long overdue well done microsoft.
