1256034 2012-01-26 23:57:00 Just installed WinXP on a new HDD and I'm thinking of backing up an image of Windows and program files. Only have firefox, thunderbird and AV software installed so far. It's currently 2gb in total for Windows and program files (I still need to install photoshop, sony vegas and a few other apps though). I'm planning on ghosting all that once it's installed, or should I make an image of Windows ALONE on it's own partition? what do most people do? what program should I use? Acronis? how big should the partition for windows be? I've got EASEUS partition manager, can I use that or should I get Gparted or something else?

Once I've figured it out I'll be copying all my old stuff from my old HDD onto the 2nd partition (steam games, music etc.). I just installed WinXP fresh yesterday for the first time in probably 5 years, so I don't plan on doing this much, but I figured it'd pay to have backups. Should I still do it?

I use Easeus ToDo Backup.

1256036 2012-01-27 03:17:00 so once I've installed the apps, how big should I make the partition? the same size or add 5-10gb? Vicx (11114)
1256037 2012-01-27 03:46:00 If you are making an image, then the drive partition size doesn't really matter as long as the image will fit, normally they will compress as well.

If the backup is on the same PC, while its good you are doing it, doing it to the same location ( HDD on the PC) is not a good idea.

If something happens to the PC, blows up, gets stolen etc, the backup goes with it. You really want backups away from the PC.
