2011-09-14 03:42:00 | Lots of interesting stuff coming out from Microsofts BUILD developer conference. One thing that struck me - how much bloat Microsoft has removed from the OS. According to Microsoft, Windows 8 will be able to run on systems fitted with Atom CPUs and as little as 1GB of RAM. Steven Sinofsky, Microsofts president for the Windows and Windows Live divisions, said that even an ageing Lenovo S10 (a mini-notebook from 2008) would have enough grunt to run Windows 8 and that the new OS would run better than Windows 7 on the system - though thats not saying much. Also on display were some interesting numbers comparing fresh installs of Windows 7 and Windows 8. Windows 7 Preview Release RAM usage: 540MB 34 processes Windows 7 SP1 RAM usage - 404MB 32 processes Windows 8 Preview RAM usage - 281MB 29 processes Can it be?????

2011-09-14 03:49:00 | Soon find out, download the developer version of windows 8 (on a spare PC) (msdn.microsoft.com) | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2011-09-14 03:55:00 | Downloading now. Will tell you how it goes. I don't have an atom. So I'll just have to make a real good guess (compare as to how fast windows 7 runs, then again 8 could be well optimised). | icow (15313) | |
2011-09-14 03:58:00 | OK - silly walks time.................................. Will 8 run happily on a 32-bit 1.7GHZ Pentium Soyo Ultra Dragon with 3G RAM?

2011-09-14 04:00:00 | The requirements are on the link I posted System Requirements Windows Developer Preview works great on the same hardware that powers Windows Vista and Windows 7: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit) 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit) DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver Taking advantage of touch input requires a screen that supports multi-touch So according to that, yup it should
