Can't find the discussion/threads for the above on line, but I may be able to shed a little light...the bit about the data not being updated rings a bell. I had a similar problem some years back and the symptoms defied diagnosis. A smart techie I knew deduced that it could only be a result of the data path being incomplete, and that could only happen if there was a connection problem. He was adamant that the cable or connectors were at fault. And he was right. A new IDE cable and the problem was gone forever. Hey, it's a cheap fix and it's worth a try.
