1257004 2012-02-02 06:27:00 Hi, my mother has a Thompson 585 router and my sister keeps turning up, plugging in and raping the bandwidth for the month leaving the internet painfully slow for my mother.
We have the wireless locked down, but she plugs directly into the ethernet ports, is there a way to block her from the network?
She ignores the facts and declares its not her fault mums internet runs slow.

Thanks

1257005 2012-02-02 06:49:00 Dont let her plug the computer into it? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1257006 2012-02-02 07:47:00 Hide the router? Stuff chewing gum into the ethernet ports she plugs into? Tell her straight that she sucks at being a considerate daughter?

1257007 2012-02-02 08:18:00 Lock the router in a cupboard and hide the key, if it was my daughter doing that I would just cut the cable each time she plugged in until she got the message, either that or just hide the router each time she visits that does mean no internet for anyone until she leaves again though gary67 (56)
1257008 2012-02-02 08:53:00 Easiest way is to disable DHCP and change it to use some crazy random IP range, for example you could have it something like 172.19.41.65. There's some blocking mechanisms in the TG585 but if you turn them on then things turn to custard, the routers are budget as anything.... Chilling_Silence (9)
1257009 2012-02-02 09:34:00 Charge her for using the Internet. Hide the phone cable when she visits, I presume that she has her own LAN cable?
Hide the power pack. A little discipline wouldn't go amiss!

For all the other advice, im not always there and my mother is a bit soft plus my sister is a bit of an asshat sometimes.

Now that's a word that should see more general use, particularly by political reporters ... :)
