2011-09-21 12:30:00 | Today I was looking around Pricespy, and decided to price up a cheap system just for the fun of it CPU: Athlon II x2 255 3.1ghz Motherboard: Asus mATX socket AM3 RAM: 1x 4gb DDR3 HDD: 500gb Samsung Case: mid-tower Aywun something or rather PSU: 350w Seasonic Optical drive: Samsung DVD-RW KB + mouse: Genius LCD: 21.5" AOC 1920x1080 IIRC, the total came to about $620, all from respectable stores with delivery included I don't know about you, but that hits me as being really cheap! 10 years ago, you'd be spending what, maybe $2k odd on a system? All the more impressive when you think about inflation Maybe this will be useful to someone building a PC on a budget, I dunno... Just thought I'd throw it out there and see what your thoughts are

2011-09-21 21:02:00 | Yeah that's the kicker. Add another 30% if you pay retail, or 15-20% if you go OEM.... | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
2011-09-21 21:33:00 | i brought a top of the line pc years ago for 6k, you can still spend 6k for a top of the line system but 650 bucks is pretty good

Rest wasn't bad though. 10 years ago there were less cowboy fly-by-night let's compete on price and run without premises (or warranty) shops around too though. And also everything is made in China now, makes for lot's of bargain bits. |

2011-09-21 22:47:00 | I remember paying $700 for a Commodore 64 Disk drive. It used to take 20 minutes to copy a 5.25" floppy, but more often than not would overheat before finishing! Along came a cartridge which reduced it to 2 minutes. Times have changed. | mzee (3324) | |
2011-09-21 22:48:00 | Yeap, it's extremely reasonable eh! What's wrong with a Seasonic PSUs PC? That exact one isn't awesome, but as a brand they are excellent.

2011-09-22 02:41:00 | Nothing. Just it's wee. Hmmm If I was a betting type I'd put my money on the system not drawing more than 150w under full load... probably less even. I guess there's not much point paying for watts if you're not planning to use them...
