Neither - this thread has gone two ways, the Obese and slightly over weight subjects, two completely different things. What I wrote about in the previous post, and your suggestions, while some are true, other parts don't apply, I'm positive you don't know the full situations regarding every ones health matters and what affects what and what certain actions, diets can have on a person - and I'm not going to discuss those. Every one is different, and your answer as presented wont work for everyone. "Energy in must not exceed energy out" While you are correct about diet /hospitals, once again it differs from person to person and sometimes their medial history or conditions. Because hospitals employ dieticians to monitor weight gain/loss and energy intake, then adjust the patient's intake accordingly. Problem there -- not every one has the ability (the average person) to have dieticians on call, sure you can say go to them, but the other side is cost. Theres not one plan fits all people I'm afraid. |

"Energy in must not exceed energy out" No offence intended WT, but you are without doubt a denier, because that equation is as fundamental as it gets, and it is also a corollary of immutable laws of physics that apply to everything, including obesity. There may be an exception somewhere in the field of experimental or atomic physics, but it sure as hell doesn't apply in human nutrition. If you expend the same amount of (or more) energy than you take in, it is physically impossible to increase your weight. The only minor variation may be fluid intake and fluid retention, but that can be managed by the same principles. You don't need a dietician either, the ability to read and the will power to stick to a diet and exercise regime are all that is required. If there is a mental problem, and sadly that is the case in some situations of chronic obesity, it is still a matter of excess energy in and insufficient energy out. Why or how do you think that bariatric surgery works? All it does is stop people stuffing food down their throat because it has nowhere to go. However, by supreme effort it is possible to expand that restricted capacity and go back to the same old ways. I have a very dear friend, godmother to my daughter, who is eating herself to death. She has had bariatric surgery, lost an enormous amount of weight, then ate her way through it, back to where she started, and then some. She is in total denial and will not change. That is one of the reasons why I feel so strongly about it. Another is that I can't abide gluttony. Billy Incidentally, we were actually taught all this in College 40+ years ago by a very progressive physics teacher who decided to use nutrition to illustrate certain aspects of physics in a more practical way instead of the more traditional examples. |

As you put it, no offence meant, but I'm afraid you are wrong in this case, A doctor are you ?? Will power has nothing to do with what I was referring to . If it were what is shown on the TV, then yes I do agree . I am not prepared to discuss in a forum, public or privately all the facts, thats a private matter, you don't know the circumstances to what I was referring to and never will . I always thought you presented a logical answer to most topic's, but in this case you are making a judgment by calling me a denier with only a fraction of the facts . Sorry to advise but you're not always right . End of this discussion from me . !!! |
