1256664 2012-01-31 21:55:00 But, like Agent says, WPA2 will not let anyone crack your non-trivial password.

It's not that you can't crack it, it just depends how good your dictionary is and how long you're prepared to wait - That is why long, obscure and weird passwords are necessary.

Actually if you are using WPS then you have more to worry about, even with WPA2: blog.thesysadmins.co.uk

1256665 2012-02-01 01:48:00 Just wondering do you have a link to that Alpha thing that works over 6 miles away?

Yeah - it's an ALFA AWUS036H 802 . 11 b/g Long Range USB Adapter . It's supposed to have 5X range .

But - more news: I was getting a firmware update and a power glitch happened - now I have a WNR1000 brick .

Any idea on how to repair it?

1256667 2012-02-01 02:06:00 Yeah - tomorrow maybe - it's dark here and 19:00, so most electronics stores are closed.

Maybe I can get to Radio Schlack and buy a new one and get a free handgun!

1256668 2012-02-01 03:47:00 The router's installation CD might have a recovery program on it: support.netgear.com Agent_24 (57)
1256669 2012-02-01 04:20:00 I'll go there - but I don't see how to get firmware into it if it won't respond.

Going there now - thanks.

All is well in Rightsideup Land.

1256671 2012-02-01 05:38:00 you can create a hidden network which will make it invisible to anyone who doesn't know the network name. but if this person is able to "hack" your wpa2 password he will probably be able to find it anyways. Slankydudl (16687)

1256673 2012-02-01 14:17:00 I got a Dynamic IP Address - WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK (AES mixed mode)

And I am using a twenty-one alpha-numeric (some upper case) for the password. All seems well now.
