1256620 2012-01-30 08:30:00 Hi,

I have just bought a new Sony Vaio laptop running Windows 7. It's my first W7 computer.

I have a desktop computer running XP Pro.

It has a USB printer attached to it, and is connected to the internet using my Thomson TG585 modem router.

Using the laptop, I can connect to the net wirelessly, but I can't see my shared printers or files....

I don't know where to start. Can someone point me in the right direction?

1256622 2012-01-30 08:44:00 To print over wifi you need a printer that can do that. Assuming you do then you just need to install the printer drivers and connect the printer to wifi the same wifi network and it should all work. Slankydudl (16687)
1256623 2012-01-30 09:11:00 The network is listed as home on the W7 laptop.

I haven't installed the printer drivers on the laptop yet....I guessed they would just use the ones that are on the desktop that it is connected to

Not necessarily, the printer can be shared out from the PC which it's connected to via USB. The printer itself does not need network capabilities.

1256626 2012-01-30 16:48:00 All you have to do is share the printer, and share a folder. Dont share the whole hard drive. And yup the pc you want to print from, needs printer drivers as well. And yup you dont have to have wifi on the printer. And install SP3 on XP Speedy Gonzales (78)
1256627 2012-01-31 02:00:00 You need to delete the Home group as well as this is for Win7 computers, only. Set the network to 'Work'. linw (53)
