2356 1999-07-06 10:26:00 My wife has one of these old colour notebooks (486 25mhz), and it does all she wants - Microsoft Works Database - for recording school pupils grades, progress etc.
The built in LCD screen can not be seen due to the neon back-lights top and bottom working. It works fine connected to a seperate monitor, and if the LCD panel is removed from the case the image can be seen on the screen satisfactorily.
DC voltage appears on the input side of the small inverter circuit board in the computer lid alongside the screen, but there is no output voltage to the neon tubes.
AST appear to have left NZ and on trying web sites of overseas agents they cannot advise a cost effective solution.
Perhaps someone can suggest a way of fixing the problem, or where to send it for repair, as my wife still thinks it is ideal as to small size & weight etc for what she has to do, moving between various classrooms & home.
