1258578 2012-02-11 03:36:00 Title pretty much explains it. Probably won't pay more than $40 sorry. PLS tell me if that is an unrealistic price :)

Cheers, Skeptile

1258579 2012-02-11 04:48:00 Have to check the likes of trademe for that. What motherboard? a lot of AM2 boards can take AM3 cpus sometimes which you can buy new (cheapest is about $60 for a sempron) dugimodo (138)
1258580 2012-02-11 05:05:00 www.trademe.co.nz There are some dual core althons for around $50 too icow (15313)
1258581 2012-02-11 22:05:00 I think the motherboard is one made especially for HP, as it was a "buy from the shop" one. so far I know that it has (or had) these parts (obviously the CPU broke). 360GB HDD, 2 DVD drives, a Sapphire GPU (sorry, don't know the exact model) an Athlon 64 5200+ X2 and an SD etc. card reader. I don't know the Mobo sorry. I'll try to find out, but as I cant exactly start it... I think that trademe will be the best option. I'll probably just go for the sempron that you listed icow. thanks so far! skeptile2 (16539)
1258582 2012-02-12 21:27:00 Very unlikely that a CPU failed. Did you buy the mb on its own ?? 1101 (13337)
1258583 2012-02-14 22:23:00 no, the pins bent lol. so I DO need a new one :) skeptile2 (16539)

We've actually had a 3-4 AMD 5200+ CPUs die in the last year or so.
PC would work fine with another CPU so they were replaced under warranty.

Sempron is the slowest and cheapest CPU line, don't get it unless you are really desperate. (Or just want to send emails and other relatively simple stuff)

A second-hand Athlon would be a better idea, I think.

1258586 2012-02-16 07:08:00 hmmmm. I do have a sempron, as my signature says. recently got a computer from a family friend, and they said it had broken, so I thought that is may be overheating, so I wanted to change the heatsink, and the pins bent :P a seriously herp derp moment. but even so, I think it might be the bios not loading, becuase when it does load, windows starts up fine, but quite often the bios doesn't start at all. So I don't know what to do about that aswell. skeptile2 (16539)
1258587 2012-02-18 10:44:00 A crook power supply can do this too. PENTIUM (426)
