2012-02-08 20:37:00 | My laptop won't work with the Ethernet cable and say it has an IP conflict. All my computers have an IP address starting with 198 and the laptop has an IP address starting with 168. I did an ipconfig and on ipv4 is where I got the IP addresses. I tried to do an ipconfig/release but it won't release the IP address because of the wireless media. | lostsoul62 (16011) | |
2012-02-08 20:52:00 | You sure its a 168 ??? The default address Windows generally gives if it cant get an IP is 169.254.xxx.xxx are you using static IP's or is the router issuing them with the setting to obtain automatically ?? If you are using static, make sure you typed it in correctly, Normally the 168 is the second batch of numbers Eg: 192.168.???.??? What router are you using, honestly never heard of a NZ router giving out 198.XXX as a default IP address ?

2012-02-08 21:16:00 | I'm sorry, all my computers start with 192 and the labtop starts with 169. The router is issuing my IP addresses. | lostsoul62 (16011) | |

2012-02-08 21:43:00 | Now I have my glasses on :nerd: and I re-read the original post --- If I read that correctly, you have the laptop connected Via wireless as well ?? If so disconnect the wireless as the ethernet and wireless could be conflicting possibly giving the message.

2012-02-08 22:05:00 | one of the other PC's may have a static IP that hasnt been correctly reserved in the router. Or a printer\webcam whatever with a static IP Could also be something weird with dropping off network & reconnecting (unlikely though)
