Thanks. :)

1234505 2011-09-29 21:37:00 Yeah it's not a lot - the idea is the controller throws the most commonly used data there, so when you think about it 4GB would be adequate for a quick startup and then a few of the most commonly used apps, firefox, outlook, antivirus, etc. wratterus (105)
1234506 2011-09-29 21:44:00 I put one in my macbook pro. I have noticed a slight increase in start up time but I have forfeited battery life. I noticed that some apps do work a little quicker.
On reflection I probably hadn't gained enough extra performance to justify the price difference compared with a standard drive. This could have possibly been because the original was 5400 as opposed to the 7200 of the ssd hybrid.

1234507 2011-09-29 21:52:00 I thought SSD were solid - ie they contained no moving parts :( :( Zippity (58)
1234508 2011-09-29 21:57:00 Hybrid SSD. Not a standard SSD drive. Have a look at the link in the first post. wratterus (105)

Hence the word hybrid.

I don't like the concept, significantly more chances of something going wrong?

As I understand it, this basically two hard drives in a RAID1-ish configuration in the firmware that pretends to be one HDD to the system??
I wonder if this works well when using multiple file systems...

1234510 2011-09-29 22:26:00 It does have a 5 year warranty...

You've just about talked me out of it...better save for a real SSD methinks.

1234512 2011-09-29 22:52:00 Just had a look at the pricing of them -- Not to bad actually, a 500GB, certainly a lot cheaper than a SSD drive.

Might have to get one when I have some spare money
