1234049 2011-09-27 23:37:00 I said "eg customer couldnt be bothered learning how to use new version of Office, so he just threatened CGA "

Well that wrong for starters -- its hardly the retailers fault the person cant be bothered learning how to use some software.

 that actually happened. It certainly got the boss's attention.

Another thought.
How long should cars be covered by the CGA (wear items excluded)
They can easily be expected to last 10++ years ??
Should a Lada(or equiv) have the same CGA expectation as a Toyota ?? or is brand irrelevant ??

What about fairly newish used cars ??

1234050 2011-09-27 23:40:00 especially when the more expensive model has a 3year warrany, which they did not want to buy (due to cost)

Hardware/devices(eg PC's ) are often cheaper because of the 1 year warranty. T

Not always.
ASUS put 2 years on their laptops - so are they all more expensive models? Not really.

Tricky question.
Sometimes I agree with the CGA and sometimes not.

Fair enough if something that should last got some major fault after the manufacturers warranty expired - and it was reputable.
But some customers expect the CGA to cover crap, mis-used, forever.

Well, its completely ignored by most retailers, to the extent of lying to customers about warranties & paid warranty extensions
Even if you win a dispute, you may never actually get paid or refunded
Perhaps if we are going to keep it , warranty periods should be stated in law for common goods, & retailers forced state this legal warranty period at the time of sale. Otherwise its all to vague & hard for the consumer .

or..
if the warranty is less than 'CGA reasonable time', retailers should be forced to tell customers of the lesser warranty actually offered & forced tell customers of the actual "CGA resonable time" .

1234053 2011-09-28 00:35:00 if the warranty is less than 'CGA reasonable time', retailers should be forced to tell customers of the lesser warranty actually offered & forced tell customers of the actual "CGA resonable time" . And there is the problem . :D there is no actual time mentioned on "reasonable time' only expected time .

I asked consumer once what they actually considered a reasonable time - they couldn't give a firm answer , it was something like --

Depends on the goods in question, Each case is taken on the circumstances at the time -- the quality to start with, example some cheap poorly made item will not be expected to last as long as a more expensive, higher quality item .
Also depends on what has failed or giving problems, how much use the item has had, another example is a laptop that gets picked up and moved about from place to place, bumped all the time or if it sits on a desk all its life and only gets turned on once or twice a week .

A washing machine -- does it get daily usage running for half the day or only once a week ------ etc etc

1234055 2011-09-28 01:04:00 This sort of thing seems to happen regularly. From another forum -

"DSE have actually now acknowledged that it was a known fault for my model of TV, and this should have been picked up right at the beginning."

The TV had been to 2 authorised service agents and had been returned as "No Fault Found". Did the agents really not know of this fault?

If you end up with a "known fault" do everyone else a favour and spread the news.

When I was employed doing waranty repairs for ........ , we were expressly forbidden, by the manufacturer, to tell anyone or admit the known product faults.
and despite being a Service agent, the manufacturer didnt allways tell us of known faults .

No, just amend it.
