| 2399 | 1999-07-09 02:37:00 | AMD-K5-PR166 CPU with 2gb hard drive running 64kb RAM. Getting following message on bootup. 'WINDOWS DID NOT FINISH LOADING ON PREVIOUS ATTEMPT. CHOOSE SAFE MODE, TO START WINDOWS WITH A MINIMUL SET OF DRIVERS' I am offered the following choices. '1 NORMAL 2 LOGGED (\BOOTLOG.TXT) 3 SAFE MODE 4 SAFE MODE WITH NETWORK SUPPORT 5 STEP BY STEP CONFIRMATION 6 COMMAND PROMPT ONLY 7 SAFE MODE COMMAND PROMPT ONLY' Item '3' SAFE MODE is highlighted and when that is selected the following message comes up 'WHILE INITIALISING DEVICE VKD: WINDOWS PROTECTION ERROR. YOU NEED TO RESTART YOUR COMPUTER' On rebooting the same set of messages then appear. The computer has been lent to a 'friend' who said that message came up when they assembled it and tried to boot it. Personal computer knowledge is limited is it fixable by the untrained 60 something??? |
