| 2540 | 1999-07-29 03:57:00 | I have loaded Win95(B) on my DX486/100 (16M RAM) and am getting regular screen freezes. It generally happens after a period of inactivity, but can happen at any time (except when shelled out to DOS).Always happens after loading a new program. The C drive was formatted before loading Win95, but the HDD (1.2M) is still partitioned into 3 drives. I have tried the following steps: -reloaded Win 95 -checked for conflicts under Control Panel.System.Device Mngr -loaded and run Norton Utils 4.0 System Check -physically removed CDROM card & MODEM -checked DOS drivers in use (only one is the SoundBlaster 16). I couldn't download a Win95 vsn so rem'd it out of the Config.sys & Autoexec.bat. -increased the RAM to 48M Nothing has made any noticeable difference. The CPU has overheated in the past when the fan stopped. I replaced the fan with a large heatsink, so I don't think heat is the problem. It runs indefinitely on DOS games. When it runs, it goes really well. I really don't want to have to go back to Win3.11. Any suggestions - would formatting the whole drive help? |
