2651 1999-08-11 08:45:00 We run Windows NT4 SP5 using roving profiles over a Novell 4.11 Network

The Problem:

Any shortcuts created to an application/object on the local hard drive retain the id of the PC they were created on (and I don't know where this info is stored...)

ie... If a user logs on to a second PC, and double clicks on an icon for 'Word97' or 'MS Dos Prompt' (apps loaded locally), the PC tries to run the application from the machine on which the shortcut was created. This results in a request for Username/Password for the remote machine. And... if you know the admin password for the remote machine, the application executible is loaded from the remote machine!

The Only work-arounds that we have found so far are to:
1. Only use shortcuts on the Office Toolbar (they are all locally generated, so all work on all PC's)
2. Or use the 'All Users Start Menu'- (again locally generated shortcuts)- impossible in our situation, as this menu is hidden from the user [to remove the administrative tools])

Is there any way to ensure that shortcuts point to the 'Local Hard Drive' - no matter which PC you log on to?
