Hi- again. This isn't my week! I recently installed Nortons antivirus on my laptop which runs win95 and shortly after that all kinds of things started to go wrong. Sometimes the machine wouldn't shut down or if I had just downloaded something or needed to restart the computer it would flash the message that himem.sys was missing which it wasn't - it resides quite happily in C:\windows and also in C:\windows\options\cabs. I ran a bootlog and it told me (depending on the colour of my shirt)that C:\windows\himem.sys didn't load, nor did C:\windows\setver.exe and occasionally I was told that C:\dos\mscdex.exe/D:tsycd1 was a bad command or file name, the Xms driver was not installed and that HMA was not available which in the end boils down to - sometimes the computer worked and occasionally it didn't feel like it. So I uninstalled Nortons and everything works again. But I have no virus protection. In the device manager window of the System file the CD-Rom controller is marked by an exclamation but it has for some time although the CD seems to work fine. Help?
