| 2884 | 1999-09-05 23:10:00 | HP ScanJet 4200C HP Deskjet 710C I hope you don't mind if I send my problem to you, but I noticed that you did the reviews on the above 2 products as well as some other scanners and printers. I had both working properly under Windows 98, then I purchased the CD from Microsoft for the Windows 98 SE upgrade and installed it. Some of my other issues went away and after about 10 days I deleted the Windows back up copy (so I can not go back to Windows 98) as I figured I was home free. Now for the problem. When I use the 4200C ScanJet and push the copy button on the scanner, any information on the bottom 25mm (1 inch) of the original document gets cut off on the copy. Previously the scanner would read and send to the printer and go down to about 11 mm as per documentation. The top 1mm, side 3mm, etc are all correct, it is only the bottom. If I 'scan' the document manually in the HP PrecisionScan program and send it to the printer it will go down to about 11mm but the quality and background are different from the copy program and not as good or convenient a copy. In regular printing of documents the printer prints as per margin documentation. I have tried before and after talking to HP, un-install, re install (both printer and scanner), using the 'edge setting' in the copy program, also manual setting of even 90% with same 25mm result, and a number of other suggestions. It seems that some file or driver may have been changed when I went to Windows 98 SE and thus when I use the copy button on the scanner by the time it goes through the settings/system it will not send or print the bottom 25mm of the original document even though it can scan and print the item via the manual HP PrecisionScan program. HP 'checked' their data base in Australia and had no information or fixes and said it is a Windows problem not HPs. Microsoft doesn't want to know about it. I feel the problem is something that is not a big deal if they know where to look to change a setting in a file or such. At present I try and make sure any copies don't have anything in the bottom 25mm, page numbers, footnotes, and so on. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
