| 2875 | 1999-09-04 00:05:00 | I've just installed a standard garden-variety Seagate 4.3 GB HD as the only HD on an older mobo and AMI bios. Although I used Seagate's supplied HD installer utility and using it to chop up the HD space into smaller partitions, the end result is that by the time Win95's own installer has sent the HD back to be reformatted in DOS (so the HD can be recognised), the HD space has shrunk to about 560 MB, in one partition. This system had a 1.2 GB HD working in it ok, until it gave up the ghost. The previous Win95 was 95a. The one that's in it now is 95b. Not that that should make any difference. Any pointers as to how I might get the max space on the HD very much appreciated. PS: The Seagate HD overlay app appears to work ok with the BIOS and allocates the total HD space via several preset options: full 4.3 GB, or partitioned into smaller chunks up to 4.3 GB. I chose the latter but subsequently, Window95's installer over-rides the above. If, as per instruction, I reboot and re-format with a start-up disk at A:\ prompt, that's where the scambled-egg results happen. The startup disk I used was not made on the installed system, Don't know if this matters. |
