| 2853 | 1999-09-01 09:52:00 | I have set up 11 machines in a peer to peer network via a hub, with printer and modem sharing. At the moment I am using TCP/IP as the network protocol. I have had it suggested to me that I should be using netBEUI. Nobody seems to be able to tell me why this is the protocol of choice, but I am tempted as I sometimes have the odd problems with loosing connections, and I wonder if it could be cured by changing protocols. I would need to retain TCP/IP for modem sharing of course. I tried adding netBEUI once, but everything came crashing down around my ears! Is there a sequence to adding protocols? Is there a major difference between the two? Nobody seems to be able to guide me in this. One network 'technician' claimed that machines wouldn't network with TCP/IP - when I informed him that my network has been running for nearly a year on TCP/IP soley, he was surprised! regards Will Gilligan |
