2012-02-16 04:24:00 | Hi Team I was checking through my back-up discs an hour or so back and discovered that SP-3 was missing. I last used it to update my son's computer and there is no hope of ever finding it again if I left it in his room for more than 5 minutes unaccompanied. I've since been looking for another download, and that is not great problem, except that just about every site I find wants a payment. MS offers it free, but won't download via any other browser but Windows Explorer, and I'm using FF. It looks like MS will download a network update package via FF, but when I identify as a personal user it shunts me to the 'sorry, IE only' site. I know there is a suitable source, because I've used it, but where the heck is it? Cheers Billy 8-{) :illogical

2012-02-16 04:30:00 | Why can't you use IE? There is a add-on for Firefox that makes it looks like IE to websites, so that may work. | Jen (38) | |
2012-02-16 04:31:00 | Just tried it from firefox, no problems at all. www.microsoft.com 316MB full install. Otherwise try this -- its the download link/trigger from that site: xpsp.dlservice.microsoft.com

2012-02-16 06:27:00 | Billy, I know you will have checked already, but I have been known to search my shelves & drawers for a missing Cd - XP system or SP2 or SP3 - and eventually find it still lurking in the CD drive several weeks after it was used!

2012-02-16 18:15:00 | Part of the Window Genuine Advantage process involves allowing an updated version on IE to run an ActiveX component that will investigate for pirated copies of Windows before allowing all of XP SP3 to install with all the recent updates. I just resign myself to updating the otherwise unused IE for this one purpose, and still continue to ignore IE from then on.

2012-02-16 21:25:00 | You dont have to validate to get the network install, or the ISO | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2012-02-16 21:28:00 | You dont have to validate to get the network install, or the ISO X2 It only checks when installing, not downloading unless doing it Via windows updates.

2012-02-16 22:03:00 | I have a copy of XP Pro w/SP3 if you need Billy. Of course that requires your own legit XP Pro key, but I can provide the disc for you at least. EDIT: Wait a sec are you wanting JUST the service pack? Not the install CD?
