1258947 2012-02-13 02:47:00 Hi all

I bought some new speakers today. They are Creative Inspire T3130. Computer is a Dell Optiplex GX270. Old speakers are old JBL platinum series

They seem great, but for one thing. On my computer the left speaker has massive static. I have heard other people with the same issue. Why is this happening? I have checked my drivers and as far as I know, they are all good. ?They work on all the other things in the house, such as Compaq laptop, ASUS desk top, MP3 player, ipod and mobile. It's really annoying me.

Any ideas would be great, other wise I might just have to return them, which sucks. I need better speakers.

Cheers

1258948 2012-02-13 02:59:00 ok so I tried my old speakers from the output of the sub connected to my computer and they too went static on the left speaker. They work fine connected straight to the computer though.

The left speaker is static only on the dell and it doesn't matter if its connected to the head phone jack or the normal line out.

1258949 2012-02-13 02:59:00 If they work on eveything else the problem is likely with the computer not the speakers. Try jiggling the connector around while sound is coming out, if it comes and goes or makes a lot of static it's very likely the 3.5mm connector is not making good contact in the socket. This could either be because the socket is worn or the plug is somehow defective. You could try a 3.5mm extension cable in case a different plug will work better. Make sure the plug is all the way in, sometimes the last little bit can take a bit of effort with new plugs. dugimodo (138)
1258950 2012-02-13 03:10:00 okay, so tried fiddling with it again, still no difference. So must be my computer. Now to decide if I should return it and get my money or what, I guess Lincooln (16704)
1258951 2012-02-13 03:32:00 So the old speakers work fine connected to the PC then? but not when connected to the sub, which I presume is part of the new speaker setup?
Make double sure you've connected everything up correctly because that sounds like the connection from the PC to the sub or the output from the sub is the issue.
Can the new speakers be connected directly without the sub just as a test ?

If you are sure it's the PC causing the problem you could get a cheap sound card and disable the onboard sound. It does mean spending more money though and I can't gaurantee from here that it will work.

1258952 2012-02-13 03:50:00 Just a note, I looked through the feedback for these on amazon and there is a lot of negative backlash from people who had problems including one who returned them because of static on the left speaker. Maybe it is the speakers, would be weird if they work on everything else though. Perhaps you could take them back and exchange for a different model or brand?

I've given up on PC speakers myself, they all seem to fail sooner or later. Noisy volume control pots and poor audio connectors are common in my experience. Now I use a small 10W stereo AMP and a pair of bookshelf speakers and am very happy with the sound. This www.pp.co.nz is pretty similar to mine except it's different model (same brand) amp and I already had speakers.

1258953 2012-02-13 09:13:00 didn't try the speakers on their own, Should have. But have returned them anyway and will get a bit more money together and get something decent. Worst part is most of the money is gift card, so can't go anywhere else other than noel leeming :annoyed: i have also no read some of the reviews and yea they all seem to complain about the left speaker getting static.

And I think it has a separate video card already. I forgot, been a while since I put it together and can't be bothered looking it up right now.

thanks heaps for the help anyway

Cheers

1258954 2012-02-13 10:12:00 Maybe you can swap the gift card for cash with a friend who likes Noel Leeming or something? Agent_24 (57)
