1235218 2011-10-03 08:04:00 For someone like me who usually has at least 40 tabs open at once, being able to move through them all easily is something of a must.

But it seems that Firefox is the only browser with a sensible tab bar - you can scroll through all your tabs with the mouse scroll wheel.

IE is probably the next best, with scroll buttons on the ends of the tab bar.

Opera works OK until you do open a lot of tabs, and then they become so tiny it's hard to click on them without closing them, or ending up with 'tab stacks' which are designed to alleviate the problem but are themselves a nuisance because I always end up making tabs stacks when I don't want them (they have still not added an option to turn it off, despite many people on their forums complaining about it!)

Chrome, I have no idea what it does, but I hate the interface anyway, so I don't even use it.

Last has got to be Safari - no scrolling whatsoever, no buttons, instead any overflowed tabs have to be accessed through a dropdown menu, and then it changes the last tab on the bar to the current 'overflowed' one to screw up your sense of tab order.

Gah!

1235219 2011-10-03 08:11:00 40 tabs, serious?? GameJunkie (72)
1235220 2011-10-03 08:42:00 Yeah, that's what I was thinking. What the heck do you have open? pine-o-cleen (2955)
1235221 2011-10-03 08:43:00 Actually IE might even have one better than the mouse scrolling ;)

OK 40 tabs, still have to scroll through to find the one you want -- Faster way with IE9 -- wanna see the whole lot at once in thumb nail view.

Open IE go to tools, Internet options, Settings button in the Tabs section,Select the Enable Quick Tabs, check box under Enable Tabbed Browsing. Click OK etc to make changes, now close IE, reopen.

Now when you have multi tabs open simply click on any tab, hit CTRL+Q Instant view of all tabs.

As A trial I had two sites open and a further 62 ( yes sixty Two) blanks/New tabs. You could select which ever you want. -- See attachment. :D

If you actually have a tab activated, hitting CTRL +Q will automatically show all tabs, a lot faster than scrolling

1235222 2011-10-03 10:02:00 Actually the quick tabs feature in IE is pretty good, although I don't often use it. Maybe it works OK in IE9 but IE7 doesn't handle it very well, performance wise.

40+ tabs are generally the result of searches (mostly electronics\computer stuff) or reading forums... it just happens.

A lot of them are often things I want to look at later, so I don't close them right away, usually while opening another 10 for something else I noticed when searching for the original thing!

There's always something interesting to branch off with... or maybe I'm just a terrible web surfer..

1235224 2011-10-03 20:42:00 Not a bad idea I guess but it looks like just more stuff to click on, I find scrolling through them on the tab bar to be the fastest. Agent_24 (57)

I wouldn't say a "terrible web surfer" - perhaps just "easily distracted"... :)

That what I get when I use StumbleUpon!!! Really hard to know when to stop - much too easy to say to yourself, "Just one more site".... And before you know it, it's after midnight!!!

1235226 2011-10-03 23:37:00 Opera Has Tab Stacks which are similar to Firefoxs Groups
arstechnica.com
I use them sometimes when working, but tend to forget when browsing generally, i like the hover over the stacks shows you thumbnails though

--------------------------Edit-------------------
I forgot wrapping
In Opera you can just go to appearance --> click on the selector for the tab toolbar and select properties to "wrapping" or "show extender menu" or "no wrapping"

1235227 2011-10-04 00:22:00 I thought my 15 tabs was plenty for researching forums, websites, etc. But 40...Lately though I have been converting some to pdf's for future reference, since some of the sites, with useful images might redirect or disappear. Also helps to use Google Search Operators (www.googleguide.com) (I customize my own, to over 100 operators) to quickly search within sites, or define specific documents (e.g. pdf's, whitepapers, etc). Also quickly referring to other sites from highlighted text using Firefox search addons, e.g. search selected (addons.mozilla.org) (version dependent). But lately Google images is helpful as well - get to see if the website is worth visiting.

Amazon, surprisingly stores tons of pdf electronic documents (www.labnol.org) on separate servers.
