1259186 2012-03-20 00:08:00 Billy made another thread a while back, about this, and I have a customer that appeared to be having the same problem, they have WLM and Mailwasher. After actually sitting in front of the PC, the problem was not Mailwasher or WLM. When you see a mail in mailwasher it doesn't actually show if there is an attachment - the only way to tell is to show the size options along the top display bar.

Mailwasher is 2012, and WLM is the latest what ever version that is.

The problems not showing attachments were settings in the mail program, as it has been previously listed.

Heres an example from mailwasher below:

1st picture shows two mails, one has a 7MB of attachments - but which one ? Even the preview windows doesn't show them.

2nd Picture shows which one has the attachments

There is no actual problem out there that is causing your problem with Mailwasher so sorry to say it is just you.

I don't, and never have had Mailwasher installed.

1259189 2012-03-20 03:08:00 Billy can see the attachments in mailwasher but when he receives in Outlook the messages with attachments do not appear. Mailwasher has had since 2011 a filter known as •Dangerous attachment detection. Alerts if a possible virus or worm is attached. File extensions are added as threats are made public.

What "may" be happening is the attachments are marked as dangerous, and its being deleted.

Theres one VERY simple solution -- BUT a person has to be 100 positive its mailwasher -- write to firetrust and ask then how to disable the feature and explain whats happening, I've looked and cant see any place to disable it. They are good to deal with when ever I've had an inquiry.

Better be sure though - Just a person may look a little silly if they then find its not mailwasher, and actually something on their PC or what they are doing.

If it were a fault with the program then there would be lots of complaints on the net and Firetrust would fix it, but there aren't many complaints, in fact the few I have found & I have looked at over the last few weeks it came back as the mail program on the computer.

I recognised several posts ago that the WLM problem was not my issue as I don't use it or even have it available AFAIK .

I've been thinking through my problem though, and while not totally excluding the possibility, I can't see how it could be Mailwasher because that only looks at the server . It doesn't download or delete anything unless told to, so I can't think how it can have any effect on my mail . However, it has been open when I download in Outlook, so just in case I have stopped it from opening Outlook automatically and will do that manually now . That should confine it to just looking at the server and nothing else .

There is definitely a problem somewhere, so is it possible that just interrogating Xtra or Orcon's servers to display their contents could cause selective deletion, or any deletion at all?

It is worth mentioning that MW provides a recovery function that lets you recover mail that has been accidentally deleted, and I have used it successfully in the past . I'm not sure what the mechanics are for that but I'm guessing they are left on the Xtra/Orcon servers, so accidental deletion by Mailwasher should see them still available . while loss at source (ISP Server) would make them vanish completely .

My lost messages are not in that list, but everything else I've deleted is! :waughh:

Cheers

1259191 2012-03-21 03:07:00 Just a suggestion, from outlook, go into the settings and tell it to leave a copy on the server.

Open Mailwasher, and see if theres any mails that contain attachments. ( Update to previous post - Just found the option to show if it has attachments) Normally I never bother to have that option showing.

Anyway -- download the mail, and assuming it drops off the attachment, move the mail concerned to another folder or delete it, then close mailwasher & Outlook, open Outlook Via the start menu / All Programs, unless you have a separate icon on the desktop for it, this will open outlook and by-pass mailwasher. you need to have moved the previous mail other wise it wont come through again.

If the same mail comes through with the attachment then it looks like mailwasher is causing it - IF so then contact firetrust, tell them whats happening and how you came to the conclusion its mailwasher and see if they can offer a solution.

IF the attachment is still being dropped when directly opening Outlook, then its not mailwasher but something else.
