1235540 2011-10-06 18:48:00 I have a theory.
The fans have spent a small fortune on air tickets, game tickets, accommodation, internal travel and most importantly on copious amounts of piss.
If the fans are anything like me they arent going to waste big money on expensive restaurants when a burger and fries will supply enough cheap fuel to sustain the drinking and cheering.
Why waste good money in a restaurant that you would be too pissed to remember anyway.

1235541 2011-10-06 18:56:00 I remember years ago getting a call from a telemarketer. He was trying to sell me discount vouchers so that I got cheaper rates at selected restaurants. I had to tell him he was wasting his time with me, because when I travel, I very seldom eat in posh restaurants. I usually go to takeaways. The telemarketer replied, "Yeh, I am a fish and chip man myself". Bobh (5192)
1235542 2011-10-06 21:57:00 Hmmm. The Viaduct always seems to be busy when I'm walking to the ferry each night (more so towards the end of each week) - so the bars and restaurants seem to be doing OK there.

On a semi-related note (re: Paul.Cov's post above) - I walked past Danny Doolan's (an Irish pub) Quay Street entrance this morning. Police crawling all over it - all taped off, lots of blood on the wall and the ground, so must have been a bit of biffo there last night/early this morning.

That said, it's the first evidence I have seen of any violence that may be related the RWC....

1235545 2011-10-07 19:05:00 The guy has died.

Seems he was set upon by three local boys with a P habit.

You can bet that story will get a lot of air in the victims home country, and will significantly impact on visitor numbers from wherever that may be... assuming he was a visitor. The story suggests his parents were elesewhere in NZ at the time.
