1234993 2011-10-02 23:28:00 Unitec has part time Tertiary Foundation options.

And what has the internet got to do with spelling? Because you're on the net it's OK to revert to being illiterate?

Be warned, they don't tolerate it in academic institutions, they pick on it. At my workplace not only are KPIs on how/if you give the correct information but how you word it, not just your spelling but also the grammar and layout of the emails too.

If you want a medical career it may be just a wee bit important, imagine if because you didn't pay attention to what you wrote, some patient received the wrong medication or dosage. And died.

1234995 2011-10-03 05:19:00 Wow it's more intense than i thought.. thank u

That is not the half of it.

Medical students have virtually no life, and the hours of work and study are horrendous. Further, and in line with previous comments, the ability to express yourself effectively in good english with correct spelling and grammar is critical.

Competition for entry to medical school is intense and if you are not in the top 5% of student achievement already, then you are dreaming. You will be eclipsed by applicants who have aready dedicated their high school years to that goal. Unless you have very rich parents or other benefactors you will also come out with an $80K to $100K student loan

So, if you can't spell tertiary, or can't be bothered getting your written communications right and think that it all sounds very hard work, go get a trade.

Cheers

Yeah, why? I always look and look up whats on it before bothering, some of the crap some doctors have thought was a good idea I've skipped. Why you just take whatever it is without looking?

Me, too. Although I have a great GP I can (and do) ask direct questions as to what , when and why the medicine is necessary, I always do my homework.

Medsafe (NZ) (http://www.medsafe.govt.nz/) is a great site to read up on the pros and cons of the prescription.

1234999 2011-10-03 08:20:00 I love how this guy comes asking for advice, then when he gets some, tells you to get off the Internet... Agent_24 (57)

Or you can ask a pharmacist to explain to you each of the medications first prior to getting them filled.

Why you just take whatever it is without looking?well, I have had an incident. Get my prescriptions from a specialist. Same stuff for the last 3 years. Took to my usual chemist as their get it in especially for me as its not a common one. Took me 3 days of taking the wrong stuff before I realised. The names were that similar. My usual pills are for my liver but ended up taking epilipsy pills. Took it back and the chemist was most apologetic. plod (107)
1235002 2011-10-03 23:38:00 Welcome to the academic world. And learning to spell would be a decided advantage to your studies.
