1234945 2011-10-02 02:22:00 It's got to the point now where if you go buy a burger at Mac's your mates will do you a haka, everything single thing in NZ now requires a haka how stupid gary67 (56)

What a load of nonsense the haka has become. Born of a culture that makes up its heritage as it goes, it's started to become a joke now.

Even the original ka mate was a joke. The mighty Te Rauparaha trembles in his jandals (ka mate = I die, I die), taking refuge behind the skirts of the local chief's wife, who then dispatches those giving Te R a bad time ("bugger off, you nasty 'orrible little men"). Te R is now overjoyed (ka ora = I live, I live).

:p

Except that he was fearing for his life (Ka mate, ka mate). But then, when the wahine gave him shelter and told his attackers to p- off, he then realised he was saved (ka ora, ka ora). Read between the lines.

1234948 2011-10-02 10:52:00 Maybe he was more worried about the wahine sitting on his head while hiding in the kumara pit "I die, I die" and when she got off, "I live, I live". Makes more sense. Iantech (16386)
1234949 2011-10-02 11:56:00 That kumara pit thing was a bit of a nose rubbing incident. No doubt a claim is being prepared R2x1 (4628)
