1259158 2012-02-14 23:24:00 Daughter drives to uni and listens to French radio which she downloads as mp3 using aTube. She extracts a URL from website source code

Now she wants to download audio from French video:

info.francetelevisions.fr 012113317_LA1ERE

The source code for this references a single wmv file but it doesn't have HTTP: on the front. Could someone tell me how to cobble together a proper URL? that aTube recognises.

I've told her how to get an mp3 by screen-recording the video, or using Audacity, but that involves real time which is too time-consuming

(Sadly, my html skills stopped at 'Hello world'. My French skills are even worse)

1259160 2012-02-15 03:01:00 I can't get that to work. It starts off OK then bombs

But thanks for the idea - I didn't think of that

1259161 2012-02-15 04:01:00 A lot of things claim to be able to download this type of content, like orbitdownloader and sothink video downloader.... but most fail on these hard ones

The only one I have found that actualy works is HiDownloadPlatinum.exe (www.streamingstar.com)

That is a link to the trial (30 days) - download it, install it, and run it.

Now click the "Sniffer" tab top second left
(or click yes to the 'start sniffer now' popup if you see one)

Then click the "Start to Sniff" button bottom left.

Now navigate to the francetelevision video you want and let it start playing.

after a few seconds or so, the HiDownload should get the relevant url and start downloading automatically.....
(you can disable that in options if you want - then you would need to right click and select "Download selected URLs")

then you can close the page the video is playing on - the download will continue :)

I wonder how that Sniffer works? It's the secret sauce

Thanks

1259163 2012-02-15 23:08:00 I use ant video downloader for retrieving video's. I think such programs use scripting to pull data/audio/ from the website's directories, then resolve them to their url's. I have read of researchers using Google Docs import function to retrieve batches of url's from websites. Still somewhat in it's infancy. There are also google advanced search operators combo's that can find find website parent directories and their entire hosted files (mp3's, vids, jpg's, etc) for download. kahawai chaser (3545)
1259164 2012-02-15 23:44:00 I also use DownloadHelper in my FF for most you tube type vids, but as with ant video downloader - these do not work with the technology FranceTelevision use bevy121 (117)
1259165 2012-02-15 23:56:00 According to ant com they reckon it does work - 120 times for the above video. Maybe regional dependent or may require customization if signed up. kahawai chaser (3545)
