| 1469461 | 2020-06-09 22:38:00 | Everyone can use a little grammar update now and then so here's yours for today . . . enjoy! Is it "complete", "finished" or "completely finished? No English dictionary has been able to adequately explain the difference between these two words - "Complete" or "Finished . In a recent linguistic competition held in London and attended by, supposedly, the best in the world, Samdar Balgobin, a Guyanese man, was the clear winner with a standing ovation which lasted over 5 minutes . The final question was: 'How do you explain the difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED in a way that is easy to understand? Some people say there is no difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED . Here is his astute answer: "When you marry the right woman, you are COMPLETE . When you marry the wrong woman, you are FINISHED . And when the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are COMPLETELY FINISHED! He won a trip around the world and a case of 25 year old Scotch! |

Its like being completely dead (or alive) finished = completed , so 'completely finished' is like saying "Im finished finished" or "Im completely completed" :-) Im calling the English Language police , you have been reported :-) This grammar update is now finished completely . |

| 1469465 | 2020-06-10 02:25:00 | Its like being completely dead Ah but you can be incompletely dead. Our understanding of the death process now is not one of an on/off switch. As we die things shut down slowly. Even after the heart stops you can't be said to be dead, sometimes people are revived at that stage. Brain activity continues, other bodily functions continue...and bit by bit start to shut off. So completely dead is when all activity has ceased, you can still be dead but not completely.... |

| 1469467 | 2020-06-10 22:00:00 | I've always thought it was dumb how someone shot in the chest falls down dead . Even if your heart is mangled, surely the brain continues to live, feel and think until such time as it dies from blood loss? Even if your head is chopped off , you arnt dead instantly . Your brain still functions for a short time . I guess how do we define "dead" Even if someone is 'brain dead' , we can keep them 'alive' on life support . They die when we pull the plug . But were they really alive if brain function had stopped ? |

| 1469469 | 2020-06-10 23:09:00 | People who were guillotined have signaled with eyeblinks in morse code after their heads were detached from their bodies. This was a pre-arranged test as it had been noticed that other unfortunates seemed to be signalling with eyeblinks previously, hence the test. An emergency sugar supply is setup to the brain and lasts about a minute. 1101 is correct. |

My axe isnt very sharp, so you'll feel some pain till I can get that pesky head lopped off :) 1 Blink means you're alive 2 BLINKS means you're a labor supporter commie . "The brain can survive for up to about six minutes after the heart stops" "By definition, "brain death" is "when the entire brain, including the brain stem, has irreversibly lost all function . " If I lop off a chickens head instead , & its headless body goes for a run, is the chicken alive ? If so, is both the chickens body & its severed head alive ? Will the headless chicken cross the road ? . com/2014/08/heres-chicken-can-live-without-head/" target="_blank">modernfarmer . com |
