1468945 2020-05-25 20:24:00 My mum, not liking animals much at all, isn't pleased about the strays that come in and steal our cats food.
So I decided we have to catch them. (And do what? SPCA isn't interested)
We have cat trap ordered but couriers being slow lately....

There are 4 I know of:
Grey Fluffy girl, lives somewhere, just isn't fed well.
Grey tabby male, lives nowhere
Grey tabby male with no tail cause the MM lady said must have been a car (not likely) and oh well, her mate will put a band on it...so now he has no tail and they don't feed him, cause oh yes, they don't have a cat
Ginger male lives under their house or on our lawn

So last night we locked the cat door so they couldn't go out once they were in.

We caught grey small tabby male. Let him out.

Then I got up at 5 this morning, we'd caught ginger.
He ran around the house like a mad thing, with us in pursuit. Curtains shredded, things knocked off bench, panic pee on laundry floor etc.
What fun.

Then no tail grey tabby appeared.

The MM ladies told me he was in the car and accidentally lost up the farm somewhere. I knew that was bullshit, you don't not notice a cat in your car....but I did think she'd dumped him.
Not.

So I let him out, my god, not an ounce of fat on that thing, he was like a brick.

So finally ginger went in the computer room and we shut the door.
Went back in with my brother and eventually got him, he's now in a cat cage.

I listed on Trademe and a couple of people have expressed interest but.... it's dubious....
I'd say he's just scared, not wild.

But I'm not keen on letting him back out, so could be tricky.

1468946 2020-05-25 21:05:00 I've been down this road.
If you are going to trap them you will need a plan.
Like what to do with them once they are in your trap.
Killing them and burying them may make you unpopular with neighbours.
Or you could give them a good hosing, then release them.

I know. It's not the first time I've rehomed cats. Spent 42 years doing it.
Or keeping them. (no more than 3 at a time)

Hosing is cruel and does nothing to discourage them. My mum had some guy come do that a few years ago. Cat was back in a couple of days.

No, it has to be Trademe.....
There's a lady coming for ginger this afternoon. 1 down....

1468948 2020-05-25 23:26:00 Why not lock your cats inside/outside at night & lock the cat door ?
Or get a cat door activated by cats magnetic collar ?

I guess you'd then have the issue of random Tom cats peeing on your front door, a stink that takes ages to go away.

1468949 2020-05-26 02:32:00 Once I had a cat attacked by a large dog. never again will I lock one out. It caught her on the doorstep, she was trying to get in away from it.

Locking in? Then if they need to pee.................I hate litter boxes.

Collar yes, I thought of that but Hoover had issues....no idea what happened to him before he came to us but he would panic and go nuts if you even touched round his neck area.
And his voice is weird....strangled?

So no.

Nah. You can't stop strays - not until people a)Neuter their pets and B)Look after them properly and feed them regularly

Anyway all good, ginger boy has a new home now. He went from a terrified snarling curtain climbing ball of panic to smoochy and all over me and mad purring.
Eventually.
I sat with him for ages while his new owner left work at lunch and came to fetch him.

fastest calming I ever saw. he was young, I could tell that. (Mature unneutered males develop fat cheeks and necks - muscle)

And he had split paw...its a congenital thing, they have 2 fat toes on front paws, instead of the usual 5.
But didn't affect his ability to move or climb.

This one was a tom, he peed in the cage, I took the towel out of cage, got a fresh one, room doesn't stink now.
Although he isn't that old - 9 months?

I know what mature toms smell like....caught one of those once.....unbearable.

Glen20 spray works really, really well.
Kills any odour in an hour or so.

So happy days. 1 down....2 to go.

1468950 2020-05-26 06:50:00 Also . . . he had as this:

SYNDACTYLY

Syndactyly (hypodactyly) or split-foot is the opposite of polydactyly .

Instead of having additional toes, the cat's forefeet (rarely the hind feet) have one or more toes fused .

In the most familiar form, called Ectrodactyly, there is a central split and two toes giving the appearance of a crab or lobster claw . In humans, the condition is sometimes known as "lobster-hand" .

The other digits have either been suppressed altogether or each of the cat's toes is made up of two or more fused digits .
Ectrodactyly is the "lobster claw" defect where the paw is split longitudinally, most commonly between the first and second toes .

Hereditary syndactyly usually occurs on both sides while congenital syndactyly often affects only one side .

1468951 2020-05-26 07:09:00 Trap them them leave it in the cage drive them out to the countryside and give it a lead pill. Hirepool rent cat cages. If you dont have a gun and a license which would be astonishing for someone who calls themselves a Kiwi you must know someone who does. prefect (6291)

As a cat owner I still agree with the lead pill for strays, and I'm not averse to delivering it either.

1468953 2020-05-26 09:55:00 They are stray....not feral.
Cruelty because some other ******** abandoned them isn't necessary.

Once I caught a wild one and yes it got shot. But not these dumped but previously had a home cats.
