2019-10-06 19:55:00 | For the last week I've been using a laptop to boost the wifi so a PC can access the internet. Yesterday it's saying the connection is secured but no internet. At this stage I'm not sure if it's the laptop or the PC that is causing the issue. What I've done so far is check that neither are on a metered connection. The network is set to public Router, laptop and PC have been restarted multiple times. Is there something simple I'm missing?

2019-10-07 00:44:00 | The network is set to public That wont be helping to start with. Private networks, -- Windows enables network discovery features. Other devices can see your Windows computer on the network, allowing for easy file sharing and other networked features. Public networks–- like those in coffee shops–you don’t want your computer to be seen by others, though, or share your files with them. So Windows turns off these discovery features. it won’t appear to other devices on the network and won’t try to discover them

I set it to public as I'm piggybacking off the wifi connection from the bar downstairs. I'm not trying to share any data between the two machines, only share the wifi |

2019-10-07 23:51:00 | Wouldn't it be easier to buy a wifi adapter with a decent aerial for the PC and connect directly to the wifi ? or is the laptop positioned somewhere closer to act as a repeater? | dugimodo (138) | |
2019-10-08 01:52:00 | Dugi, I have the laptop already, and I'm not sure what wifi repeater will work, or what to buy. The way I see it is it doesn't cost me anything with this setup. Yep the Laptop is in the hallway of the upstairs residence, in the only available wall socket, so acts as a repeater. The current router downstairs is a Vodafone HG69 so pretty basic. This setup working allows more connections. Also, when the socket needs to be used for the vacuuming the internet still works. Cheap kiwi ingenuity lol We're getting fibre here next week so will see what that changes.
