Ken Yes, but...most of their "premium" stuff isn't theirs at all. Go take a look...now google the headline. They pinch it from other news sites, who are NOT charging for the article. If they are going to charge for someone elses free news, then I won't pay them for it. |

I'm not sure who or what you may mean when you say "they", I assume you mean the press being the subject line. On the other hand, while I agree with you, I postulate it really should be the Government of the day. This current government is doing exactly that: getting stories stopped or changed. Gagging even members of Cabinet. |

Here only the Editors Opinion is allowed to be published and debate is not allowed. Take a look at this. The Editor is obviously a Greenie and any views contrary to his will not be tolerated. 10348 So, "Stuff" is just a vehicle for 'Green" propaganda and is up for sale for the Princely sum of $1, being way above value. |

Gagging even members of Cabinet. You assume correctly I was meaning the press. They are supposed to print news not just be the propoganda wing of the Government of the day (any government not just our current one). They have also become quite obvious in picking one view of any subject and supressing anything that does not support that view. |

I agree (Partially), but I would respectfully suggest a universally acceptable modification would raise morale and foster a culture of smiles nation-wide: The current government must do exactly this: Gag the even members of Cabinet plus the odd members of the opposition. (An acceptable method of gagging would be be a tourniquet applied to the neck.) Given the mathematically inconsistent preponderance of odd members in the opposition, a minimum of 90% extra rope should be supplied. ;) |

[Freedom of the press is the right to circulate opinions in print without censorship by the government . An independent press is one of the essential pillars of democracy . Its the peoples protection against secret government, against authoritarianism and against tyranny . Without the press, the concept of a democratic system of government starts to weaken and after a while, the democracy crumbles . /HTML] [HTML]It was already obvious to [the writer] through numerous examples that Jacinda looked after Jacinda and that she was a narcissistic, out of control force with little respect for democracy The Government started taking extreme measures, deciding which businesses could stay open and telling people what they could and couldnt do in their bubbles while also throwing in scenarios of catastrophic death, I waited for the press to add some balance . So what did our compliant free press do about all this? Nothing . A compliant fourth estate that does not challenge a government is frankly just not doing it's job . In NZ we are being "served" by foreign owned entities that manipulate public opinion to serve their own purpose(s) . . . An example: Dr Simon Thornley, Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Auckland, and backed by a multitude of health professionals in New Zealand, presented a plan B . Essentially it pointed out that the Governments strategy was not proportional to the threat posed by COVID-19 to New Zealanders health and that it was likely to substantially harm the nations long-term health and well-being, social fabric, economy, and education . They proposed a plan B separating the low-risk people from the high-risk people and opening the country domestically with immediate effect . It was a brilliant and well thought out plan by a cross-disciplinary group of academics concerned about the welfare and futures of all Kiwis . As a democracy, New Zealand deserved that viewpoint and it was the number one trending article on Stuff that day . At the peak of the trending of that article, Stuff editor Mark Stevens removed the entire text of the Plan B story and replaced it with a completely different story about how dangerous it would be to open the country and how we would all die and how reckless it was for anyone to suggest anything else such as a move out of our virtual house arrest . Maybe it is time for civil disobedience? Click here for the original article ( . co . nz/2020/05/10/how-free-is-our-press-really/" target="_blank">thebfd . co . nz) :devil |
