| 1464608 | 2019-10-21 18:01:00 | How many home users need pro though, most don't use a fraction of the features of office let alone pro. I'd assume most who actually need pro and need to be up to date are well aware of the fact and don't really need to ask, but for those people sure a 6 user subscription is a great deal if you can find 6 people to split the costs. 6 People, who need pro and don't get it from work. Let me know how that search goes :p |

Let me know how that search goes :p Dont need to search, I can name right off the top of my head without even looking at my customer data base at least 3 families that have Office 365 home and use between 5-6 licences, they all use Word, Excel, Outlook, the kids use Publisher and PowerPoint for School work, One family both the mother and father use Publisher all the time for work in their clubs ( making flyers) only a couple use Access. With the Subscription version you also get a total of 6TB of online storage. The 365 of course is the pro version, you get most applications. Bit like everyone's computers, NOBODY uses every function in their computer is capable of but its there if you want it. There's also a plan for Schools, to supply for free to students. With the one time purchase of Home and Student you only get Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. |

When ever you install Office ( even one off) you have to sign into MS to create the account to download the install file, at a later time you simply log back in, re download and install, then disconnect the original install. The biggest problem is MANY people always forget the account details they used. we are talkin about Home Use Program , its not the same as retail . 2019 HUP , you loose your license if you leave the company. That could cause issues when you want to re-install , especially if you used your company email when you bought it. For 2019 HUP "If you do not work at a company that is eligible for the Home Use Program, then you are no longer eligible to access activation and installation information related to your purchases made on www.microsofthup.com." |

All I'm getting at is that it might not be so easy for a single user to find 4 or 5 other people willing to share the cost, surprised that many families do TBH. On top of which for a lot of family licenses are the costs shared equally or are Mum and Dad footing the bill... I'm sure both ways happen there too. Office is a great product, but the options for a single home user are expensive. And there are a lot of free alternatives that are good enough for a lot of people. When I saw the cost to me for the HUP through work, well that response can't be posted on the forum. Comparing it to the full price of pro is not relevant to users like me either, that was never an option. But as you say, for users that have a regular use for office and can share the cost around it's not so bad. |

Did you read what the original post actually stated ? They've just changed the HUP so now they only offer Office 365. I'm not a huge fan of the monthly or annual subscription, but it's tempting because the discount continues forever, even if I leave my employer. Maybe they have a different plan ??? As for the Email details, fair enough if its a company email, but in the site it clearly states "Use your personal Microsoft account and link for savings." so basically you dont use the company. of course whom ever is in charge of who gets what could more than likely boot that person out. |

| 1464613 | 2019-10-21 20:43:00 | Just went through the validation process again to check costs. For me it is: $83.30 a year or $10 a month Office 365 personal $115.5 a year or $16 a month for Office 365 Home (6 user) So yeah Home is a much better deal if you even have 2 users. I think the single user cost is way too high by comparison. Some might consider that a good deal. I don't. It's a personal thing. |

If youre the sort who doesnt see the need to constantly update.... and only wants the basics.... Then the Full retail, stand alone product is much better on the pocket, long term. Yes , I do spend more than $10 a month on coffee , but thats not the point . :) Office 2019 , a one off cost . Split that cost over many years and the compare many have gotten 7-8 years usage out of Office 2010 . Thats better than $80 a year . I was happy with the ~free~ MS Office 2010 Starter on my home pc. Word & Excel only, but ~free~ (sort of) |
