| 3055 | 1999-10-01 12:19:00 | I have seen several conflicting articles and books as to whether it is possible to build one's own multimedia PC at a cost equal to or cheaper than the cost of similarly spec'd retail systems. What attracts me about the exercise is the understanding I am likely to gain by putting it all together myself. The main stumbling block I see in terms of pricing is that even if I manage to source all the components at costs close to retail - which I've almost managed to do - I still face the extra costs of getting an O/S and software - whereas Win 98 + basic office packages are usually included in retail packages. Can anyone offer advice /been there done that / etc? |
