I have an Acer laptop running Win95 OCR 2.1 and I was wondering if you could
help me with a technical problem.

I attempted to install a Demo version of Wingate, to save dragging a modem
around with my laptop, which failed to work and then failed to uninstall
properly. During this process it asked me to name the server to be used as the
Gatekeeper which is the base machine on the network with a modem. After the
failure to install/uninstall I can no longer use the Internet from my laptop
either on or off the network.
This base machine seems unaffected, but then it's installation of Wingate Server
did not seem to have any problems.

Explorer & Outlook Express connect to Clear Net but cannot find the POP server.
The status message says connected with TCP/IP protocol, server type PPP windows
etc. The connection time ticks over.

All that comes up on the Explorer window is
'windows\system\SHDOCLC.dll/dnserror.htm'

Outlook displays the following message when it attempts to find the mail system:

The host 'pop.clear.net.nz' could not be found. Please verify that you have
entered the server name correctly. Account: 'pop.clear.net.nz', Server:
'pop.clear.net.nz', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

I have checked all the relevant settings in the Internet properties windows and
can find nothing amiss. The DNS settings are set to server assigned and the
proxy settings are off.

Hope you can suggest a solution?
