| 3264 | 1999-10-27 03:03:00 | This has stumped me completely and I hope you can help if possible, please - I moved my system off my desk, and then replaced it. When I started it up, Windows booted correctly, but did not detect my CD Rom drive. I suspected this was a loose cable, and went about checking everything was fit correctly. After removing and replacing cables, when my system first boots up, it now detects the CD Rom drive. But when it gets to 'Verifying DMI Pool Data', it hangs. I can't boot Windows in safe mode, I can't get to the command prompt without going to 'Command Prompt Safe Mode'. When I select 'Step by Step Confirmation', the system gets to 'Himem.sys' before it hangs for a short time, and then comes up a message saying 'Himem.sys is missing'. However, it is still sitting there in the Windows directory. I was tempted to boot off a floppy disk to see if this was different, but my floppy drive now won't read any disks I place in there (or attempt to boot off). I really hope you can help with this. |
