| 3312 | 1999-11-01 04:46:00 | I had a major windows crash the other day as a result of a programme locking up and windows not being shut down properly. To get the machine going again I had to reinstall Win98 from the CD (without formatting the disc). When it was up and running again I found that scandisc had corrected a number of errors and created extra directories on the hard drive. I think I have managed to sort out almost everything as a result of that, with the exception of Outlook Express. I had IE5 and OE5 installed before so I reinstalled them. I then found that Outlook Express 5 wouldn't load and kept giving the messages: 'cannot load msoe.dll..' or ' could not load oeimport.dll' I thought I would go back to Outlook Express 4 and try that which worked okay. I tried reinstalling OE5 again and tried various tips on the Microsoft website without success. I uninstalled OE5 again to go back to OE4 and now OE4 won't work! The programme now gives a message similar to: ' unable to start programme. Some components may not be installed or corrupted.' I have tried the following: -used the ext.exe tool on the start-up disc to extract the inetcomm.dll file to the windows folder -replaced the Hhctrl.ocx file -renamed the oeimport.dll and msoe.dll files and tried copying new files - deleted the password files I don't really want to format the hard drive and start again as I only did this about 3-4 weeks ago. The only other thing I have noticed is a periodic programme crash (even after the recent clean install)with the Kernel 32.dll file. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Machine specs are: IDT Winchip 2a - 233; 4.3GB and 1.2GB h/d's; 48MBRAM; Win98. |
