1236933 2011-10-12 00:34:00 A clip from The Telegraph:

The 1973 All Blacks demonstrate that when it [the Haka] is not performed just so, as ahead of a match with the Barbarians, it loses some of its impact .

Looking visible uncomfortable, the team to a man struggles to give the tribal dance the oomph it carries these days . Some gamely try to execute the moves, and fail, while others merely go through the half hearted motions, busting shapes, giving it jazz hands and generally looking as intimidating as a girl guide with asthma and crutches .

When Richie McCaw's men perform the haka ahead of this weekend's World Cup semi-final against Australia it will set the mood for what will surely be a physical and emotional affair . How things change .

It what resembles the awkward motions of nervous teenagers at a village dance the 1973 All Blacks are a watered-down version of what we've come to expect .

They may as well have pulled out the sticks and bells and performed a spot of Morris Dancing instead .

EDIT I remember those awful hair styles, I used to sport one and thought I was so cool  Until a very non-PC Aussie Customs officer did a great act of looking between me and my passport photo and cracking up .

1236935 2011-10-12 01:34:00 Lets just keep the haka for the pre match and not every time somebody does something mildly disinteresting though, it's so over exposed now its becoming a joke gary67 (56)

I agree with your sentiments. Except for: its becoming a joke? This clip was from 1973, and it was unintentionally farcical then.

Well I thought it was amazingly stupid ever since I found out what the story was in English.
Should be embarrassed about it.
