| 1236357 | 2011-10-08 06:05:00 | Recently brought 2 Carver chairs which I have repaired. Any way what I am looking for is someone or a site where I can post pics in the hope that someone can identify them. They were described as being over 100 yrs old but from what I can see on the net is that they may be any where up to 200 yrs old. They look Georgian in style except for one major difference in that the legs are straight and square. In restoring them I found several square tapered nails without heads which lead me to think they are in fact very old. They are very very heavy, and the mahogany is very hard, possibly Heart Mahogany. Any ideas or thoughts most welcome. Cheers Colin |

| 1236361 | 2011-10-08 08:33:00 | They are both carvers, but different back tops. My first thoughts were Queen Anne, but with straight legs, could be earlier. I think you need to have them appraised by a genuine antique dealer to be sure. LL |

| 1236363 | 2011-10-08 08:52:00 | Thanks LL. Yes the legs are the mystery, especially as they don't have struts. From what I have seen on the net the backs seem to be Georgian. |

| 1236366 | 2011-10-08 19:32:00 | Very similar. These are huge. one is 600W x500D, the other is 630W x460D. Also the back legs on both chairs have extensions added using a "stepped" joint system. The extensions are identical on both chairs which would suggest that they were done at the same time. | Colpol (444) | ||
