1236180 2011-10-07 09:38:00 Hi Team

In anticipation of the demise of CDMA, and on finding that XT uses a new version of CDMA (code division multiple access) and not TDMA (time division multiple access, nasty Vodafone stuff that fries your brain) I took advantage of the very cheap prices and updated to a shiny black clamshell Samsung S5511T.

With my old Samsung W531, for music or photos, in or out, I just plugged in the USB connector, it showed up as a drive, and I browsed to the folder. No manual needed, no hassle, just inuitive design.

So, I now have this all singing all dancing phone with front and rear cameras, mirror display, chrome wing mirrors and a few dozen other features I haven't found yet, but the manual is miserably inadequate and the closest full version I can find on the web isn't quite close enough.

When I plugged the usb lead into my computer, I got the bing-bong USB recognition signal, but it didn't show up in My Computer. Then (from the manual, such as it is, there's not enough paper in it to wipe a pixie's bum) I found that I had to stop Bluetooth before I could connect to a PC, but even then, after the phone finally appeared as a drive letter, I still couldn't open anything.

It appears that I may have to add a memory card to progress further, but no doubt a few PF1'ers have already trod this path so can anybody confirm whether I am on the right track or not please?

Cheers

1236183 2011-10-07 16:53:00 Other samsungs I have used you had a "connect to PC" function that needed to be activated on the phone. Have play around in tools to see if something is there.

edit: I think you need to install software

171MB !!!! - is this size file considered large? What does it do - clean the house and take out the rubbish too?

1236185 2011-10-07 20:49:00 I did the same "upgrade" a while ago.
The W531 was a lovely phone to use.
While the S5511T is basically the same phone, they have managed to make EVERY function harder to use!
The shiny casing attracts dirt, the clamshell is no longer openable one-handed, the options and menu's are less intuitive, the PC interface is crippled, and you are restricted to the supplied headphones with their proprietary plug.
Rather than being an evolutionary step forward, it is the retarded southern cousin.
I am well pleased to be rid of mine, which is now seeing out it's days being abused by a teenager with a text plan.

1236187 2011-10-07 21:04:00 Yeah XT uses Wideband CDMA. Same as AT&T in the US, except here in NZ it doesn't suck so much :p Chilling_Silence (9)
1236188 2011-10-07 21:07:00 Under menu, look for the app you want, then look under settings, you have switch on these things sometimes. Cicero (40)
1236189 2011-10-07 21:32:00 Not upgrading my CDMA phone till July next year when there should be some good bargain prices from the differant telcos.
