2011-10-11 23:09:00 | its the maoris problem now good pont BM I was saying to someone yesterday, if the Maoris think they own the beaches, why aren't they down there cleaning it up? But I didn't post it here, as I'm walking on thin ice with racial issues at the moment. Oh, hold on... :p

2011-10-11 23:46:00 | "The vessel went aground early 5th and salvors were already appointed and their first staff on board the vessel sometime before mid afternoon the next day so there was no delay whatsoever. " I disagree. :D The best time to get it off the reef was on the next high tide at 3pm on Wednesday. The local Harbour Board tugs should have been in place and an attempt made to re-float it. It must be remembered that the ship was fully functional engine wise and the prop was in 30+ metres of water. Ill attach a cross section which shows how steep the reef is and how little was actually stuck. There was certainly nothing to be gained by leaving it there and doing nothing. It was never going to fix itself as has been proved.

2011-10-12 00:19:00 | The ship's fully functioning engine reputedly drove it onto the reef at 17 knots. How many tugs would be needed to drag it backwards from a standing start? I'd imagine that the ship's insurers pick the salvage company and pay as required. If you jump in and take over they'd probably walk away from any responsibility leaving the Government to sue some shell company.

2011-10-12 02:54:00 | I would like to know how a retired P&T Tech can actually help with the Rena? Probably more than an accountant and a Snotbox. Anyway, being President of the Procrastinators and Handwringers League what do you suggest?

2011-10-12 03:23:00 | . . . Procrastinators and Handwringers League what do you suggest? Grasp one hand firmly, and repeat with the other hand . Don't rush into it, haste makes waste . On the other hand, Mr Ring could possibly advise on an auspicious date . The Government is about to suggest a steep drop in the maximum tax rate and to guarantee success an extra 25KM on the National cycleway . Sue Bradford will suggest that giving smack-free children the vote at 4 years should straighten out the matter . Act's Bozo will suggest a quick puff of a suitable weed will help, while Crusty insists on sentencing the puffers to flogging and keel-hauling . The Greens will want trees planted on the Harbour Bridge .
