Its unbelievable - I saw on the TVNZ news that the pleasure boat is the ONLY boat nearby. Any and all navy ships in NZ should have left as soon as the accident happened. And that fuel barge ! And yes where are the port tugs ! Don't worry, we have rescued 7 birds and we have hundreds of people ready to pick up any more. Its not a good look for the government. There seems to be no leadership. And I'm a National supporter! |

2011-10-08 07:44:00 | Alternately, Paul could stand astride the highest container with a couple of cans of Links, take his top off and spray away ... when all the blondes in the north island arrive, he could tell them the containers are full of anti-aging cream ... problem solved ... they'd just throw the containers overboard and paddle them to shore ... :D Geeze ... I would have done well at Apple ... I can think outside the box !!! LMAO. Sadly my face, my hairline, and my belly would all negate any positive effect of the Linx spray... not to mention my age as well. Still, it's nice to dream. I seem to remember being young once. I think.

2011-10-08 08:18:00 | Has anyone given any consideration to sending a container load of balloons to the Beehive ... every MP could blow up about 1000, attach said balloons to ship, and just let the whole bloody thing, ship and containers, float away .... :D Alternately, Paul could stand astride the highest container with a couple of cans of Links, take his top off and spray away ... when all the blondes in the north island arrive, he could tell them the containers are full of anti-aging cream ... problem solved ... they'd just throw the containers overboard and paddle them to shore ... :D Geeze ... I would have done well at Apple ... I can think outside the box !!! I hear they're looking for a new innovator :p

2011-10-08 09:22:00 | Heard on the TV1 news tonight that they are going to position a ship with cranes on it at the stern of the ship and start lifting some containers off. :)

2011-10-08 09:36:00 | That's actually a really good idea ... take the weight off the back so that weight transfers to midships and forces the hull down harder on the reef ... if anything, they should be taking the forward containers off and letting the stern sink lower, easing the downward pressure midships. Think of it like a see saw with kids on either end. Sounding more and more like Pike River Revisited ... fortunately there has been no loss of life ... yet.

2011-10-08 09:40:00 | I would imagine that they well move the ship around and lift the containers off from differant areas to balance the load. They can also use water ballast to try to keep the ship as even as possible. :)
