As soon as the weather gets nasty they will all be in the water. I still say drill a few hole sin them all NOW is the best bet. They can't even pick up 30 containers let alone 1,000 bobbing round. They could close the Port of Tauranga - millions a day ! |

| 1236060 | 2011-10-24 02:36:00 | Actually the one they showed being hauled from the water on TV last night was just a piece of bent and twisted metal with nothing inside. Must of been one of the empty ones the Rena was carrying. I have no argument with what and how they are doing things as I am not the Johnny on the spot. They have said they are getting the oil off first then they will start taking the containers off if the Rena is still a float by then. That will have to be planned properly to keep the weight evenly distributed. :) |

| 1236061 | 2011-10-24 05:51:00 | What about the 1300 odd containers still on the Rena? We know where they are, so wouldnt it be a good idea to remove them before the next storm which will almost certainly see them all over the ocean . Beautiful weather, an appropriate vessel available, and I dont think one single container has been removed from the stricken ship . So whats the excuse? However, they have made this remarkable recovery . Big deal . Surely any fool can see removing them from the ship will cause it to move around more causing more damage and letting more oil leak, but I guess I must be the only fool since I can clearly see that from Nelson and yet the local experts on hand in the bars and on the beach cannot |

I can imagine you down on the beach trying to run things, after all, everyone else is totally incompetent. Has it ever occurred to you that you maybe a bit looney? |

Another consideration is the stern one third (plus) of the vessel is actually afloat, so the topside weight combined with the exposed wind area is going to put much more stress on the vessel than removing them in perfect weather conditions. Removing the rear containers now is going to be a mission in perfect conditions and impossible in rough weather. :groan: I think we might as well resign ourselves that inevitably we are going to have oil and containers everywhere. Every container and every drop of oil counts, so we should have been Making Hay While the Sun Shines. |

| 1236064 | 2011-10-24 07:18:00 | Containers will float even if they have holes drilled in them. If you open the doors they will still float. I think waiting to get the oil off first is the right decision. EDIT: its a shame they cant warm the oil so it flows better |

Have BM and Digby volunteered there services yet. If they haven't I think they should go down there first thing in the morning and do so. :) |

If they haven't I think they should go down there first thing in the morning and do so. :) Well Trev, have you anything to offer other than your complete and utter support for the Bureaucrats? Remember they handled Pike River and the bodies of 29 miners are still where they fell, they handled Christchurch and the Red Zone is still in place with little or nothing happening. Queensland had massive floods and Japan had a massive earthquake complete with tsunami and in both cases they have almost recovered. Not in NZ with its Hand Wringers. I guess well have to rely on Rust to remove the Rena. |
