Speedy, thanks for your help. It appears as though the real problem was at the other end (TomTom), not with my PCs. It seems as though their site was not picking up the serial number of my device, so it was not linked to my registered account. That was fixed manually by a helpful Technical Support person in Australia, once he twigged to what was going on. It meant that the GPS then connected with my account and showed all three of my updates. However, when I tried to download, I ended up in a never ending loop. Hit "Start downloading" and a box came up saying I needed to install MyTomtom, which was peculiar because I had got on to the site via MyTomtom. OK, hit "Install" and we go back to the beginning again, hit "Start downloading" and back to "Install" again. The nice support person escalated the problem because he had not seen it before, and I heard no more. This morning, I connected, and it just worked. I had noticed that one of the three downloads (59.6Mb) did not have my model listed, and thought that was peculiar. This morning that download had disappeared - all I can assume is that the model of my GPS has now been matched up to my account; not just the serial number, so I am being served the right software updates.
Anyway, sorry to have wasted your time Speedy - thanks for your suggestions. Incidentally, this GPS displays the speed of the vehicle, and it shows what I suspected - the campervan speedo is out of whack. It shows my speed as 50kph, whereas the GPS shows 46kph; at 100kph on the van speedo, the GPS shows 92kph. If that is linked to the distance meter, I am probably clocking up higher Road User Chargers than I am actually travelling (if that makes sense). |
