There's meant to be a fancy 'secret brew' of fluid within them, but it can dry up, leak out, harden, or simply get cooked or internally corroded. Younger ears have a better chance of hearing bad caps pulsing, as they still can pick up the higher frequencies... not that they'll necessarily be within the audible range. I've been able to hear my monitor in Sleep Mode since it was new. |
