1236029 2011-10-15 23:26:00 We used to have a saying here in NZ pre PC days and that was "dont cry over spilt milk"
Clean the oil up and recover the energy stored in it by burning it somewhere and just plain get over it.
Sick to death of ******** lying they have headaches etc its the same stuff that is used on paving machines here. Next time you drive past a Bitelli paving machine laying asphalt see if you can spot people near the machine using breathing gear and ask them if they have headaches.
I fix pavers and I actually like the smell of asphalt. The only problem is the operator gets stressed if you take too long as the hotmix cools down.

1236030 2011-10-15 23:33:00 I see what you're saying and that is a valid point, but the last thing we need is people filing lawsuits against Maritime NZ in 20 years time because some of them are getting cancers and it's revealed that the oil is potentially hazardous, then more people will be complaining about "waste of taxpayer money... blahdeblahdeblah" and asking why they weren't given the proper equipment etc. etc. etc... As for reusing that recovered oil, it's (AFAIK) only useful in ships and stuff, and all the sand and crap in it will have to be taken out of it first. Reusing it does make sense (and reselling it to cover some of the cost of the cleanup) and it certainly beats burying it, only to have the now contaminated site cleaned up 20 years later costing billions of dollars. mookster1 (15854)
1236031 2011-10-16 01:01:00 Well, the organisation is Maritime NZ, and probably appropriate for its CEO to be a charted accountant.

Very good Wal, I like it.

It seems there must have been a misunderstanding as she has turned out to be a cost accountant, and a very costly one at that.

But it just keeps getting worse.

I found this lot have set up camp on the beach. :groan:

1236033 2011-10-16 02:15:00 To get rid of this oil, they should put a line of iPod and iMac users shoulder to shoulder at the 1/2 fathom line on any threatened beach, suckers that will swallow everything (as long as you call it iOl instead of oil). ;) R2x1 (4628)

iUsers? Surely there wouldn't be enough of them?

1236036 2011-10-18 08:34:00 It's all OK, the Government has assured us we're in the very best of hands. :help: R2x1 (4628)
1236037 2011-10-18 09:35:00 Purely as a matter of interest, does anyone have an explanation why Britain, with all its resources made the same mess as us, with the Napoli in 2007??

Perhaps they trained our lot?
