1236011 2011-10-14 19:19:00 I heard on the late news last night that some of the people involved the cleaning the birds in the oil spill at Tauranga are to be offered counselling!. Guess I'm old fashioned because a phrase involving "heat" and "kitchen" springs to mind! tuiruru (12277)
1236012 2011-10-14 21:21:00 Where was the counselling for the West Coast residents that had many thousands of dead birds on the beaches after the July storms? PaulD (232)
1236013 2011-10-15 03:05:00 The secret files of the eagle eyed salty sleuths investigating this case have been hacked - the whole thing is a docu-drama . Dramatic things have happened basically because the ship's mission statement endorses the use of "Big Boat Driving for Dummies" without specifying which edition should be used . In the interests of prudent fiscal management the Owners' Ebeneezer Team obtained a copy of an original edition at a thrift shop and this was the Operations Manual in use at the time . The acting Boat Driver at the time noted a land mass appearing in front of the boat . He identified the North Island as Terra Incognito, and prudently referred to their manual for guidance . Unfortunately the manual suffered a little due to coffee stains that occurred in a nasty gale in 1897, but the actions seemed clear to the driver - "In the event Dragons, serpents, mermaids or unknown lands be spied, call out the Starboard watch and put an extra hand in the crow's nest" . Unhesitatingly the puzzled but valiant lad improvised to the best of his ability: unable to comprehend the "call out starboard watch" business he transferred his Rolex (purchased in Rangoon for $7 . 50) onto his right arm and challenged it to a duel . For the extra hand - - crow's nest routine, he put his left hand into the parrot's cage in spite of several nasty wounds from the enraged bird . This meant he had to steer with his foot, but he felt up to the task in spite of having to face the stern, which meant he was looking at an unfamiliar wall of containers .
At this stage, he very prudently decided to reduce speed, and using his tongue to turn the pages he referred to the chapter on "How to slow down ye vessel . " It stated, "call the crew aloft", so unhesitatingly he bellowed "Cabin Boy, you're a loft" . Licking his way to the next page, he read the next instruction; "To reduce speed if ye be under full sail, take in a reef" . . . . . . . . .

The Oily Minister of Boats has issued an emergency edict that henceforth all biggish boats, especially ones that might go bump in the night, shall carry a Master Librarian and three auditors to ensure that the books are shiny new issues - preferably the ones with the free gifts .

1236018 2011-10-15 04:58:00 No oil pumping today?

I don't get it, Surely B.M. is standing on the beach yelling and ranting at the ship.

I'd have thought once he informed them they were doing it all wrong he would have been crowned king, The oil would disappear, the ship would float off over the horizon, and everyone would be back onshore for tea and scones before dinner time.
