First you need to round up the sheep from the paddock though and get the dogs to chase them to the beach, now as we all know sheep don't like swimming unless they have to, so deploying them around the ship will be a big task however being sheep if you lead they will follow. A ring of politibooms might have more effect as all that hot air will dissipate the oil as it needs heating first |

| 1235971 | 2011-10-12 19:13:00 | As is usual in these circumstances, the media has gone into "overkill" mode on one particular story - in this case a container ship stuck on a reef about to fall apart. I had to laugh then, when One News ended their late bulletin last night with the statement "You can visit our website for the latest breaking news"! | tuiruru (12277) | ||
| 1235972 | 2011-10-12 19:54:00 | so I am going to join in today myself and when ever I can from now on (I live 30k away) Lawrence, I cant vouch for this first hand, but a usually reliable source tells me you will have to undertake a training course now before you can help. Dont know how long the training course takes, or how much it costs, but you should be fully qualified in a year or two. |

| 1235973 | 2011-10-12 20:00:00 | There was one of the "volunteers" on Papamoa beach on the news last night sobbing thru' her mask saying "A lot of of the people helping are getting sick!". Hello!! Which bits of "Toxic" and "Stay away!" don't you understand?? :stare: | tuiruru (12277) | ||

| 1235975 | 2011-10-12 20:16:00 | I hear the Police have the beach closed off to the public due to the containers washing up so going to register I guess Being told when I can go and clean up is over the top from what I saw yesterday, think we are getting indoctrinated with the Pom way of doing things When you have spent most of your life in farming with cows crapping on you while milking and just hose yourself down and carry on So now when they ring to say you are required today for the cleanup and you have other things that need to done that day, sorry can't do today |

However, at least with "the Pom way of doing things", and their maritime law, you had a chance of scoring yourself a BMW motorcycle legally (news.bbc.co.uk)!! |

| 1235977 | 2011-10-12 20:40:00 | Yeah HFO needs to be heated to over 100C for it to flow. Yes, I believe that may be the case, but I also believe that apart from being aground, the ship WAS fully functional. This seems to me to be evidenced by the fact that we were told they were continuously pumping fuel from tank to tank and the fact that they had eventually called for the Endeavour and a bunker (forget its name) with the intention of off loading the fuel. Only problem was they left it too long and got caught by the weather. I also note that they intend to resume the fuel removal when the seas abate. (Thats if theres any left) :groan: I can only conclude then that the oil temperature is a Red Herring and the fuel was perfectly pumpable. As far as the containers that have fallen off the stern go, well, that end was in 40m of water and there was no good reason why a container ship with cranes couldnt have Rafted up at the stern whilst the seas were calm. Then the shiny ar..s expect us to be comforted by telling us there are two enquiries underway. Big deal, I bet they will be as much use as the ones into Erebus, Cave Creek and Pike River. |
